First responders prepare for large crowd Rock the Country

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Rock the Country is expected to draw around 24,000 music fans to the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday nights. That’s a much larger crowd than past events have drawn.

Nickelback and Kid Rock are the headliners. Rock the Country travels with its own security force, but since the fairgrounds are county property, the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office will have a presence in case of any arrests. Captain Adam Zishka recommends concert goers give themselves plenty of time.

“This is a large crowd for the fairgrounds, mostly because the grandstands can’t accommodate that many people. So this whole event will be held primarily in the north parking lot area, which is plenty of room to accommodate these people, and we’ve been preparing for months to do so, said Zishka.

The National Weather Service will have a meteorologist on site. The current forecast includes temperatures in the 80s, which is not too hot by South Dakota standards, but overheating is a top concern. First responders will be on standby to assist with medical emergencies…
