Nashville Stadium Construction Halted After Noose Found

Construction at the new Nissan Stadium site was abruptly stopped Friday following the discovery of a noose. Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating the incident, which the Tennessee Builders Alliance (TBA), the group overseeing the project, condemned as a display of “racist and hateful symbolism.”

The TBA is offering a substantial $250,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the individual responsible. Mandatory anti-bias training will be implemented for all workers at the site. The MNPD’s Specialized Investigations Division Detectives are handling the investigation.

In a statement, the TBA emphasized that “there is no place for hate or racism in our workplace.” Work will remain suspended until a site-wide meeting focused on inclusion and respect has been conducted. The organization expressed outrage and sadness over the incident, and stressed its commitment to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all workers.

Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell confirmed the investigation and expressed his concern, referencing ongoing city initiatives focused on workplace safety. The specific details surrounding the noose’s placement within the construction site remain unclear. Mayor O’Connell stated the city’s commitment to de-escalating tensions and preventing hate incidents, emphasizing cooperation with the Titans and the MNPD in the investigation.

Construction on the new stadium, adjacent to the original Nissan Stadium in downtown Nashville, began this year and is slated for completion in 2027.
