Slight risk for severe thunderstorms in Metro Detroit — Here’s a look at when, what to expect

DETROIT – Humidity will rise on Saturday. With a warm front lifting across the region in the morning, I can’t rule out an isolated shower or two but the better chance for showers and thunderstorms will likely develop on Saturday in the afternoon into the early evening hours in which there is a slight (level 2) risk for them to become strong to severe.

Damaging gusts, threats of large hail, flooding

Damaging wind gusts of 60+ mph will be the main hazard, with secondary threats of large hail, isolated tornadoes and localized flooding in areas with heavy downpours.

It is worth noting that the timing has been bumped up with each model run that comes in, so there remains a bit of uncertainty on timing tomorrow and whether there will be sufficient instability to produce the severe storms which will be heavily dependent on if we see any rain development with the morning warm front.

A spectacular start to next week with lower humidity and temperatures around seasonal temperatures in the low 80s. However the humidity will build back in midweek with temperatures back into the low 90s for the second half of the week…
