Real Housewives Star Erin Lichy Launches Mezcal Brand
Erin and Abe Lichy, the New York power couple and reality TV personalities, have launched a new mezcal brand, Mezcalum. Inspired by their love of Tulum, the Lichys aim to introduce a smoother, more versatile mezcal to the US market.
The couple, who balance their careers with raising four children (including a newborn!), developed a passion for mezcal during trips to Tulum. Unlike the smoky mezcals commonly found in the US, they discovered a smoother variety that they believe will appeal to tequila drinkers.
Erin even championed the spirit on “The Real Housewives of New York City,” sparking some social media discussion about mezcal’s already established presence in the US. However, the Lichys emphasize their genuine appreciation for the culture and craftsmanship behind their brand.
Mezcalum focuses on sustainability and female empowerment. Made with 100% agave, the brand highlights the spirit’s natural and organic qualities, which Erin credits for a hangover-free experience. She emphasizes that this is especially important to her as a busy mom.
Partnering with longtime friend Chris Roth and distiller Carlos Mendez Blas (who also became an investor), the Lichys have prioritized sustainable practices. Their Oaxaca distillery replants two agave plants for every one harvested and employs a largely female workforce. Erin is proud to be a female presence in a male-dominated industry.
Abe’s legal expertise in Mexico proved invaluable in navigating potential trade tariffs, showcasing the couple’s forward-thinking approach to business. They credit their ability to compartmentalize and delegate for managing their multiple businesses and growing family.
Mezcalum represents more than just a beverage for the Lichys—it’s a testament to their commitment to culture, sustainability, and the power of partnership.
