Each year, Duke’s Mayo – created in Greenville and currently made in Mauldin – hosts Hot Tomato Summer, a multi-city competition to see which restaurant can make the most creative dish that includes both the famous condiment and tomatoes.
The event takes place from July 17-27, giving participants 10 days to win the Golden Tomato Award. Last year, the Greenville winner was the now-defunct Clayton’s Deli for its Southern Comfort Slice, a pizza which illustrated the creativity of the project as going beyond tomato sandwiches.
