‘This is the first new pair of shoes she’s ever had on her feet’ || Maryville church prepares for supply drive

MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Rio Revolution’s annual event to hand out back-to-school supplies to Blount County families is set to start Saturday, July 19.

The church’s pastor said they have been hosting the Helping Hands event for more than a decade, and more people show up every year. Organizers said they are planning on helping around 2,700 kids this year. Their website states they helped 7,000 families at last year’s event, including more than 2,000 children.

Families line up early on Saturday morning, and then they get to pick a new pair of shoes, get a haircut, and get free undergarments, socks, a backpack and a box of food…
