If you’ve been strolling along Lincoln Road lately, you might think that zoo animals have run amok! But these massive animal sculptures are part of a whimsical, new installation shining a light on wildlife conservation, individuality and the power of public art to create positive change.
Acclaimed artist duo, Gillie and Marc, are known for their animal-human hybrid characters and dedication to saving endangered species through their works. They make sculptures that are often placed in urban settings to educate the public about the threats these species face. Fresh off of a successful exhibit in New York City, the duo have officially brought their striking bronze sculptures to the Miami Beach promenade.
On display through July 2026, you can expect to find “The Wild Couch Party,” which features an expansive couch with 12 of the most endangered animals in the world, including hippos, Masai giraffes, African elephants and koalas. They are joined by Gillie and Marc’s beloved Dogman and Rabbitwoman, as the group enjoys coffee and cake. And you’re invited too, of course!
The 40-foot-long sculpture seems light-hearted at first — depicting the simple pleasures of human activities such as sitting around on a couch with loved ones — but taking a closer look at the animals being featured, the piece delivers a thought-provoking message on the fragility of wildlife. Weighing over 13,000 pounds, “The Wild Couch Party” can be found on the 400 block of Lincoln Road.
Additional works can be found on the 700 block, such as “Watch Out for Paparazzi Dog” and “Watch Out for Paparazzi Rabbit,” which serve as an artistic reminder that anyone can seize opportunities and have their moment in the spotlight. Dogman and Rabbitwoman, standing at approximately 4 and 5 feet tall, appear to emerge from manholes while holding golden cameras.
These sculptures are currently on view through next year, so be sure to catch them while you can! As part of Marc and Gillie’s ongoing partnership with the Lincoln Road BID, you should also check out “The Giraffe and Chimpanzee Were on a Wild Ride to a Safer Place with Rabbitwoman and Dogman” and “The White Rhino Bench of Friendship,” both of which made their 2024 debut.
