Orange County Grand Jury Report May Change Short Term Rental Rules

At the end of May, the Orange County Grand Jury released a report titled “Long-Term Solutions to Short-Term Rentals.” The report offers detailed considerations for new regulations that could be implemented to address the challenges faced by many residents of Orange County.

For many years, Orange County has been a popular international destination, boasting 42 miles of scenic coastline, attractions such as Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, Angel Stadium, and the Honda Center, and other notable sites. The release of this report is in anticipation of Orange County being a popular destination with many cities needing to update their rules and regulations ahead of the increased demand expected during the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Reports from the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris indicate that the average price per night of STRs in and around Paris more than doubled during the Olympics, and total inventory grew by nearly 50 percent. With the World Cup and Olympics on the way, these surges are likely to be seen in Orange County, especially with the Honda Center and Trestles Beach — both in Orange County — being used as Olympic venues.
