The next generation of firefighters participate in Camp Hero

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A group of young men took part in the Savannah Fire Department’s first annual Camp Hero.

Camp Hero is a three-day camp for young men ages 14 to 20 where they can get hands on firefighting experience. They learned how to put out a fire, practiced different hose drills and even climbed a 100-foot ladder.

“They learned the basics of firefighting, how we work together as a team,” Savannah firefighter Jomo Simmons said. “Specifically, how to work, how each member of the team works together and learning how that translates to fire service or on the fire floor as we’re dealing with a fire situation.”…
