CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Iowa’s News Now) — Summer is returning after a brief hiatus with high humidity and rounds of storms in eastern Iowa. The first round of storms will begin late Friday night and could impact outdoor plans into Saturday morning.
A complex of storms will move in from north to south across the state after 2 a.m. Storms will continue into Saturday morning and could contain strong to severe winds (60 mph) along with heavy rain.
Storms may not exit the area until 11 a.m. or noon. This batch of storms could lead to tree damage, power outages, and localized flooding. Be prepared for changes to outdoor events, like the Downtown Cedar Rapids Farmers Market, on Saturday morning.
A few isolated storms could develop in the afternoon, but much of the rest of the day will be dry. Another round of storms will move in late Saturday night into Sunday morning. The higher chances appear to be near and south of Highway 20 in eastern Iowa, as of right now.
