Iowa ranks well for rental affordability, but housing still out of reach for many Iowans

IOWA, USA — Iowa ranks fifth in the nation for affordability of two-bedroom housing, according to a new report published by the National Low Income Housing Coalition. However, that still leaves two-bedroom housing out of reach for many Iowans.

According to the report, 28% of Iowa’s population rents housing.

On average, an Iowa renter must earn an hourly wage of $19.99 per hour to afford two-bedroom rental housing — less than the national average of $23.38, according to the report. But Iowa renters make less than what’s required to afford such housing, earning an average of $17.32 per hour…
