Remnants of Gulf tropical disturbance soaking parts of Texas east of I-45 on Friday

A tropical disturbance that had been harassing the U.S. Gulf Coast for the past few days has moved over land, ending its chances for tropical cyclone development. However, the system’s stormy remnants on Friday were crawling westward into East Texas and the Piney Woods.

As of 11 a.m. Friday, no flood alerts had been issued by the National Weather Service, but plenty of rain was falling across Southeast Texas, mainly east of Interstate 45 and closer to the Texas-Louisiana border.

Rain gauges in Sabine County, for instance, already had recorded more than 3 inches of rainfall, while Bell Field Airport in Jasper County reported about 1.3 inches Friday morning, according to data from the Texas Water Development Board’s TexMesonet…
