NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – One man was acquitted and a second found guilty of lesser charges early Saturday (July 19) in the trial of two defendants accused of shooting and paralyzing a University of New Orleans student during a robbery in 2022.
An Orleans Parish jury returned its verdict around 2 a.m. following a weeklong trial at Criminal District Court.
Unconvinced by Orleans Parish prosecutors, the jury rejected the charges of armed robbery and attempted first-degree murder against Cruz Matute and Tata Say.
