BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Movies that continue a franchise – whether it be a sequel, reboot or re-imagining – are shackled by certain elements. You could not do a “Final Destination” movie without some casualty-causing event. Any good “Scream” movie needs a masked killer.
The trick is how well the mandatory elements can be incorporated into the latest offering. This year’s “Final Destination: Bloodlines” found a near perfect way to remind fans of the gory glory of the series while forging some new lines.
The next effort looking to continue franchise success comes with “I Know What You Did Last Summer.” Because it has the same name as the 1997 movie and the 2021 TV series, the latest offering is not quite a sequel. But it does feature a return of Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt from the original and the 1998 sequel. Whatever the tag, the film certainly harkens back to the original…
