One Indiana zoo has welcomed a new addition to its animal family after a pair of Humboldt penguins gave birth to a new baby last month.
Meet Euchre, the New Penguin Chick
The new penguin chick was born at Evansville’s Mesker Park Zoo to Penguins of Patagonia exhibit residents Adrian and Chirrida. The new chick was born June 16th and has been named Euchre (pronounced like the card game) by zoo staff. While Euchre is hitting all of the growth milestones for a penguin chick, it is not known yet if it’s a boy or a girl.
A Growing Penguin Family
Since Humboldt penguins are known to be monogamous, with the female choosing her mate, Euchre isn’t the first chick born to Adrian and Chirrida. It is welcomed to the flock by its big brother, Louie Pickle, who was born to the penguin pair in 2023.
