Volunteers clean Abner Clay Park in honor of Maggie Walker’s 161st birthday

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) – A handful of volunteers put their gloves on and got to work sprucing up Abner Clay Park on Saturday morning, July 19.

“The labor work that’s going on right now is intense,” Stephanie Pooler, Chief of Interpretation and Education at Maggie Walker National Historic Site, said during Saturday’s clean-up.

Alumni of Maggie Walker Governor’s School, neighbors in the area, park rangers and Richmond Mayor Danny Avula got their hands dirty, pulling up weeds, moving mulch, and throwing away garbage…
