Local Drug-Store Staple Rite Aid Expected To Close At The End Of This Month

After decades of serving Coronado residents, the Rite Aid pharmacy will close its doors on July 30, with the entire store shutting down on August 24, marking the end of an era for the local community’s longtime drugstore staple. What was once a lively, go-to spot for residents to purchase snacks, toiletry items, and medicine has become desolate and quiet, with shelves almost completely bare and an occasional customer strolling in.

Rite Aid’s decision to close its Coronado store follows its second nationwide filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2025. As a result, Rite Aid has been closing hundreds of stores nationwide, including over 1,000 locations that have already shut down or are planned to close.
