GREENE COUNTY, Mo. (KY3) – From false phone calls to front porch scams, residents in Greene County have had a recent increase in scammers.
Deputy Derek James with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office said they’ve been seeing more calls like this in the area, as well as scammers sending texts with fake warrants with the person’s name and demanding money.
“We’ve received a lot of reports of scams – people calling sometimes from a spoof number makes it look like it’s from our building or another government agency, saying ‘You know you missed jury duty. You have a warrant for your arrest. You have to pay us a lot of money over the phone to get it taken care of,’ which is, we will never do that,” James said…
