Mini Mural project brightens electrical boxes in Schenectady

SCHENECTADY — Electrical boxes throughout the city of Schenectady are getting a facelift thanks to the talents of 19 regional artists.

The Mini Mural project by C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Studios is the first public arts project involving this number of artists for the Electric City-based nonprofit, according to Charlotte Mack, C.R.E.A.T.E.’s community outreach coordinator. The artists, mainly from the greater Capital Region, are putting their designs on electrical boxes on a number of street corners, mainly in the downtown area.

The Metroplex Development Authority, a redevelopment arm for Schenectady County, is the project sponsor, providing funds that pay the artists and aiding with the approvals for the artists to access the electrical boxes, Mack said…
