Deceased Westfield man implicated in national sports memorabilia hoax

A Westfield man allegedly implicated in a national multimillion-dollar sports memorabilia hoax apparently killed himself the day after Westfield Police Department officers executed a search warrant July 15 at his business on South Park Drive.

According to a news release from the City of Westfield, the search warrants were related to the alleged counterfeit sports memorabilia scheme. On July 16, a second search took place at a location in the 300 block of Hoover Street, and upon arrival, officers found the man deceased with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“The investigation is ongoing and the FBI is assisting,” the news release stated.

National news outlets have identified the man as Brett Lemieux, who posted a long statement on the Facebook group Autographs 101 the day of the first search warrant. The post has since been deleted, but screenshots are still circulating…
