A Minute with Drexel: Good caught on camera

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) – These days, just about anyone can take pictures and videos of what’s happening around them, with just a tap on their cellphone. Sometimes those images capture great memories. Other times, being “caught on camera” can lead to a lot of chaos! News 5’s Drexel Gilbert is thinking about that in this week’s Minute with Drexel.

Hey y’all. Well, I’m sure you’ve seen it. The viral video of a CEO and one of his employees getting “friendly” at a concert, then getting caught on the “kiss cam!” I’m sure we will hear a lot more about this story, but for now, I’m thinking back to when I was growing up. Cameras were a luxury then/ Not many people had them, and if they did, it was probably a little Kodak 110 or a 35 millimeter. I didn’t own a video camera until after my children were born, and I worked in TV! Many of the memories- the happy ones, the ones that make me feel warm and proud inside and the ones (especially when I was a teenager) that make me go “Ouch! Did I really do that?” live only in my mind’s eye. For that, I’m pretty thankful!

It’s different today. There are cameras everywhere. Security cams, traffic cams, street cams, cellphone cams, “kiss cams.” Seems like everything we do or say can potentially be caught on camera and splashed all over the place! So, my question is: If your words and actions were being recorded and played back to you each day, would you be gratified… or horrified?
