Extreme Heat Warning issued, no relief in sight

An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for the majority of the Ozarks beginning Saturday and lasting through at least Wednesday.

This prolonged stretch of hot weather will bring daily high temperatures in the mid to upper 90s, with feels-like temperatures soaring well above 100 degrees.

While the warning lasts until Wednesday, I see no immediate break in this heat wave. Long-range models are supporting dangerous high temperatures lingering into next week as well. It may be until the start of August before we receive a much-needed cooldown.

The extended nature of this heat wave raises concerns for heat-related illnesses, especially for vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly.
