Area near tropical wave being watched for development in Atlantic

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – Forecasters are monitoring a low-pressure area that has formed off a tropical wave in the Atlantic that has a low chance of developing.

The system formed in the Central Tropical Atlantic, about 900 miles east-southeast of the Lesser Antilles.

Shower and thunderstorm activity recently became more concentrated near the center, and some additional development over the next day or so while the system moves west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph.

But by the middle of the week, the environment could prevent the system from developing further…
