Very hot Monday, strong afternoon storms for some

Heat Advisory: In effect for Marion, Winston, Lamar, Walker, Cullman, and Fayette counties from 11 AM – 8 PM Monday. The heat index will reach 105-110°. Be sure to limit time outdoors and hydrate well.

Tonight: A very isolated downpour is possible before sunset. Otherwise, we’ll remain dry with temperatures falling into the middle 70s with mostly clear skies.

Monday: A few showers and storms are likely mainly along and east of I-65 during the afternoon and evening, some of which may be strong to briefly severe with gusty winds. Highs will climb into the low to middle 90s with the hottest conditions over western Alabama where the heat index will climb to 105-110°.

This Week: Dangerous heat will top our weather headlines through the middle of the week with the hottest conditions expected on Tuesday. This is when all of central Alabama will experience heat indices from 105-110° with a few spots potentially getting a degree or two hotter than that. If you are sensitive to the heat and prone to illnesses, you’ll need to limit your time outdoors and drink plenty of water over the next few days.

Tuesday is now shaping up to be one of our drier days with rain chances around 20%. This means a few showers and storms will still pop up, but they’ll be very spotty. Wednesday through Saturday all have equal chances of spotty afternoon/evening downpours. During this time, our heat index values will decrease back to the lower triple digits which is typical in central Alabama for late July. Highs will be in the lower 90s to even upper 80s on days with more cloud cover.

Tracking the Tropics: There is a 10% chance of development over the next seven days in the central Atlantic. Conditions will not be ideal for anything significant to develop.
