Weather Alert: Severe thunderstorms possible Sunday evening

Following some morning clouds and showers, New Englanders will need to keep an eye to the sky in the evening for the potential development of severe thunderstorms.

Expect a period of dry weather with increasing sunshine through midday. While the brighter skies will be a welcoming sight for some, this daytime heating will lead to severe thunderstorm potential as the day wears on. One thing you’ll notice today is the increase of humidity with the majority of the region seeing dew points sit in the low 70s.

The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted most of Southern New England in a level 2 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms, with the primary threat of damaging wind gusts.

A broken line of storms is expected to sag southward through dinner time, with a few segments likely accompanied by gusty winds, frequent lightning, and potentially some hail. While severe caliber storm coverage isn’t expected to widespread, storm cells that do develop may pack a punch…
