BEDFORD, Va. (WSET) — A non-profit blood provider is hosting a blood donation drive at the National D-Day Memorial Saturday, Aug. 9.
The Blood Connection, a nonprofit blood provider for Carillion Clinic, will be hosting the blood drive from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
“During World War II, blood donations were vitally important. Although less advanced than what we see today, soldiers and civilians alike were asked to give blood for wounded men at the front,” said John Long, National D-Day Memorial Director of Education. “On D-Day, medics landed on the beaches with bottles of blood and plasma, and there are even photos of men receiving blood right on the beaches. Blood donors saved lives on D-Day, and they still do.”…
