These rescued dogs were minutes from disaster—now they need you

Sonoma County nonprofit races against clock to save 200 dogs from nightmare in Ensenada

Right now, in Ensenada, Mexico, nearly 200 dogs remain trapped in conditions described by rescuers as horrific—living without clean water, adequate food or basic medical care. Sonoma County-based Compassion Without Borders (CWOB) is urgently mobilizing to save their lives.

“We got word of an emergency hoarding situation in Ensenada from our rescue partners and immediately started to mobilize,” says Dr. Christi Camblor, veterinarian and co-founder of CWOB. “Our partners were in tears. Everyone was wearing hazmat suits. Dogs were crammed into makeshift pens and rooms in absolute shambles. There was filth everywhere. Despite it all, the dogs were mostly friendly, wagging tails, glad to see us.”

Urgent rescue underway

CWOB, headquartered in Santa Rosa and deeply rooted in the Sonoma County community, recently rescued 26 dogs from the site. These animals are now safely recovering at CWOB’s local rescue facility, affectionately known as “Muttopia.” However, this first rescue barely scratches the surface. Camblor stresses the urgency, noting, “Time is running out. The city is not able to provide support much longer, and these animals will soon be heading to animal control.”…
