AFR finds 1 pinned in burning car under semi on I-40

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Two people are in the hospital following a crash involving a semi truck on westbound I-40. Details are limited, and it’s unclear what caused the crash, but what is known is that one of the drivers is in critical condition.

Just before 8:00 a.m. Sunday, Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) responded to a call of a commercial vehicle fire on westbound I-40 by Rio Grande. When firefighters arrived, they say they found a person trapped in a burning car pinned underneath the semi-truck.

2 dead in I-40 rollover west of Albuquerque

That person was taken to UNM Hospital. About 50 yards away, firefighters found another car with a person inside who was also taken to UNMH.

The incident caused I-40 to be shut down, but it has since been reopened. This is an ongoing investigation, and News 13 will provide updates as they become available…
