HAMBURG, N.Y. — Two people were successfully rescued Sunday evening after their boat capsized about a mile off Hamburg Beach.
According to the Hamburg Water Rescue Unit, crews were dispatched shortly before 6 p.m. to assist the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company following reports of individuals clinging to an overturned boat.
Marine 2, a 16-foot inflatable craft, was unable to launch due to rough conditions, with waves reaching up to five feet. Marine 1, a 28-foot rescue/fire boat, was launched and responded alongside units from the U.S. Coast Guard and the Erie County Sheriff’s Marine Unit.
