Local author featured on PBS

GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN — Randy Johnson discovered his love for Grandfather Mountain when he was in college. He would hike and backpack the trails at Grandfather while attending school, not at App State, but in Richmond, Virginia.

Recently, his love for the mountain was featured on PBS in a program called “My Home, NC.”

Johnson was visiting the trails once again when he noticed “No Trespassing” signs. After a hiker died of hypothermia, Hugh Morton, a well-known conservationist and the developer and private landowner of Grandfather, decided to close the trails…
