South Carolina Heat Advisory: Temperatures Soar, Feeling Like 109°F Until 8 PM Today

Columbia, SC – A dangerous heat wave is settling over central South Carolina and parts of Georgia today, with heat index values reaching a sweltering 109°F by this afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the region from noon until 8 p.m. EDT, warning that the combination of high temperatures and intense humidity will make conditions feel dangerously hot.

According to the National Weather Service, heat index values could peak at 109°F in Columbia, Aiken, and surrounding areas, posing significant risks for heat-related illnesses. Areas of Georgia, including Augusta and Thomson, will also experience similarly high temperatures. The hot, humid conditions could cause heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially for those spending extended time outdoors.

Residents are urged to take extra precautions today, including staying indoors when possible and limiting strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing, and ensure you’re drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day.
