Planning Commission OK’s new structure for internet

A new “fiber hut” to house high-speed internet equipment is being proposed for parcel of land owned by the City of Taft near Petroleum Club Road and Highway 33.

The unmanned building and support items are a part of the California Broadband Initiative to bring high-speed internet to rural areas, City Manager Craig Jones said, and it will enhance internet services in Taft.

Fiber huts have been described as “a vital part of the infrastructure that enables high-speed internet access to homes and businesses.”…
