BENTONVILLE, Ark. — As always, Walmart Inc. dominates this week’s lists of Arkansas public company data.
The Bentonville retailer’s 13-year record at the top of the Fortune 500 list of the largest publicly traded companies is under pressure from Amazon Inc., but it has no rival in its home state: Its net income of $19.4 billion in its most recent fiscal year, the metric by which we rank public companies headquartered in Arkansas, was more than 20 times that of No. 2 Tyson Foods Inc. of Springdale.
Walmart reported revenue of almost $681 billion in the year that ended Jan. 31, a healthy 5% increase from the previous year. Amazon, of Seattle, took in a smidgen under $638 billion in 2024, just 6% less than Walmart and an annual sales growth rate of 11%. FactSet Research Systems Inc. of Norwalk, Connecticut, is projecting that Walmart will eke out another win in the current fiscal year — $708.7 billion against an estimated $700.8 billion for Amazon, a difference of barely 1%…
