Bridge repair work on Kellogg begins today in downtown Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Kansas Department of Transportation will begin a bridge repair project on Kellogg (U.S. 54) today.

KDOT says beginning at 9 a.m., the two outside lanes of both eastbound and westbound Kellogg will be closed between Broadway Street and I-135 for bridge deck patching as part of Phase 1 of the project. Traffic will be reduced to two lanes in each direction. The speed limit through the work zone will be reduced to 50 mph, and a 12-foot lane width restriction will be in place.

The following ramps will also be closed:

  • The eastbound entrance ramp from South Topeka Street. The detour will direct traffic south on Topeka Street, then east on Lincoln Street, and north on Washington Street to enter eastbound U.S. 54 at Washington Street.
  • The westbound entrance ramp from South Washington Street. The detour will direct traffic south on Washington Street, then west on Lincoln Street, north on Market Street, and west on Kellogg Drive to enter westbound U.S. 54. Drivers needing access to the southbound I-135 should travel north on Washington Street, then east on 1st Street, and south on I-135.
  • The eastbound exit ramp to South Washington Street.
  • The westbound exit ramp to South Topeka Street.

The project will repair two bridges located approximately a quarter mile east of Topeka Street. Work will include pier repairs, drainage improvements, column wrapping and cleaning and painting of bearings…
