NYPD Officer Bitten and Dog Fatally Shot During Brooklyn Assault Response as Investigation Begins

A fatal shooting of a dog by the NYPD has sparked an investigation after a biting incident occurred involving a police officer in Brooklyn. According to ABC7NY, the event took place last Friday evening in Sheepshead Bay. Officers had arrived at the scene following an assault report at an apartment building near Ocean Avenue and Avenue S.

Responding to the assault involving a 34-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman. After they took the man into custody, a dog from within the apartment proceeded to aggressively bite a female officer in the leg. Her partner, reacting to protect, ended up fatally shooting the dog. NBC New York reported that the officer was bitten in her thigh when she was apparently engaged in arresting the suspect.

Following the incident, the involved parties received medical attention. The female officer who was bitten was treated at NYU Langone Hospital Brooklyn, where her partner also received care for tinnitus, a condition characterized by ringing in the ears.
