Young wife’s illness leads to husband’s life-saving cancer diagnosis

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A young wife’s diagnosis with a chronic illness may have inadvertently saved her husband’s life. Cydney Cory, who recently discovered her kidneys were failing, prompted her husband, Brian Cory, to volunteer as a potential living donor. However, during his medical evaluation, Brian discovered a lump on his leg, which led to a surprising diagnosis.

“I had a lump on my leg for a little while and just had to have it checked out before going through the process,” Brian Cory said. This discovery led to a referral to Dr. Chris Freese and Dr. Brittany-Bell Gordon of the Christ Hospital Oncology Team.

Cydney Cory expressed her initial shock, saying, “It was eye-opening really, shocking, hard to digest at first.” Brian was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called mixoid liposarcoma, which affects the muscle and bone.
