Erie community make quick save of baby ducks amid Moon Mammoths excitement

(WJET/WFXP)– While the hype of the Erie Moon Mammoths’ launch filled downtown Erie Friday evening, some first responders and members of the community took their time to help a feathery family in need.

What started out as a typical wedding setup for Mark Eisert, the owner of Millennium Sound Productions, took a turn when he said he noticed a mother duck freaking out in the middle of the Bayfront Parkway.

When he got out of the car and looked down, he found out why: all seven of her babies had fallen into a storm drain and couldn’t get out.

Eisert said he and some good Samaritans lifted up the grate to get the first one, then were joined shortly after by members of the Erie Fire and Police Departments, along with Erie Water Authority and Streets and Sewer Department, who helped with the rest.

The first five that had been rescued safely made their own way back to their mother, who all walked off. Thankfully, Eisert and an officer were able to find them and personally deliver the last two via a boat loaned to them by Port Erie Sports…
