Horses no longer allowed on Southwest Trail in Pulaski County

PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. – New rules are coming to the Southwest Trail after Pulaski County officials put up new signs stating that horses will no longer be allowed on the trail.

Local Michael Henry said when the horse does its business, the riders don’t typically stop to pick it up or move it off the road, instead leaving it for the rain to wash away.

“I’ve seen their waste all through this neighborhood and the surrounding area,” Henry said. “I’ve been able to go around it, but for us personally, it hasn’t been that big of an issue, but I have noticed the issue.”

Henry said the Southwest Trail can get heavy foot traffic at times, especially during the evening. He noted that walkers, runners and bikers have to keep their heads on a swivel to avoid stepping in the horse waste…
