Six Stewart’s Shops locations close, change ownership

ROUSES POINT — Six stores recently owned by Stewart’s Shops are now in the hands of competitors Mirabito and Prestige Petroleum Corp. due, in part, to regulatory conditions.

Under terms laid out by the Federal Trade Commission, the ubiquitous Saratoga County-based convenience store chain was directed to shed several locations in areas of low competition after acquiring 45 Jolley stores in the fall.

Stewart’s Shops had until late spring to identify new operators. Newburgh-based Prestige bought two locations in Queensbury. Other shops in Queensbury, Rouses Point, Plattsburgh and Manchester, Vt. were sold to Binghamton-based Mirabito…
