Regina King Mourns the Loss of Former Partner Malcolm-Jamal Warner
Actress Regina King has shared a heartfelt tribute to her former partner, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, following his unexpected death at age 54. Warner tragically drowned in an accident while vacationing in Costa Rica.
On Monday, King posted a photo of Warner on a motorcycle to her Instagram Stories, writing, “Some people leave a lasting imprint, not just for who they were but for the energy they carried. I’m sending prayers filled with love and understanding to your family and loved ones.
Rest easy Malcolm-Jamal Warner.” A second image showed Warner triumphantly raising his hand while on his motorcycle, captioned simply, “Ride in power.”
The pair initially met in the 1980s while both were starring in popular NBC sitcoms – King in 227 and Warner in The Cosby Show. Their romantic relationship began years later, in 2011.
At the time, they spoke publicly about their strong connection. King described their shared experiences as child actors and the values instilled by their mothers, noting their relationship was “maturing nicely.”
Warner echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the special and precious nature of their bond.
However, the relationship ended in 2013, amidst rumors of a difficult split. While King initially refuted these rumors on social media, she later alluded to a painful Valentine’s Day breakup, although she never publicly named Warner.
Despite their separation, King’s recent tribute speaks to the impact Warner had on her life. Warner was previously linked to actress Michelle Thomas and Karen Malina White.
He is survived by his wife and daughter, whom he largely kept out of the public eye. He spoke fondly of his wife during a recent podcast appearance, emphasizing her importance in his life.
King joins numerous friends and former co-stars, including Raven-Symoné, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Eddie Griffin, who have shared their grief and memories of Warner on social media, highlighting his enduring legacy.
