Port Angeles, WA—A four-year-old child was bitten by a mountain lion while hiking with their family in Olympic National Park this past weekend, park officials reported Monday. The incident occurred Sunday afternoon near an overlook on Hurricane Ridge, a popular area known for its stunning views.
Following the attack, the child was airlifted to a Seattle trauma center for treatment. Park rangers were alerted around 3:15 p.m. and immediately began searching for the cougar, which was equipped with a tracking collar.
By Monday, park officials confirmed the animal had been located and dispatched. They assured the public that there is no ongoing threat.
