Bridge collapses in Pickens County

PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Local and state officials are working to put a detour in place after a bridge collapsed in Pickens County.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation confirmed it was alerted after a bridge on S.C. Highway 133/Crowe Creek Road was severely damaged.

Photos of the bridge show a large section of the roadway has fallen into a branch of Lake Keowee. When the damage occurred or what caused the roadway to collapse into the water is still under investigation.

According to SCDOT the bridge was most recently inspected in April of this year and rated in fair condition. The bridge was load restricted, meaning heavy trucks and vehicles were prohibited from crossing…
