The state says it’s working to learn more about what caused damage to the bridge on Crowe Creek in Pickens County. And the highway patrol says the resulting detours will approximate more than a 20-mile trip to avoid the area. According to the DOT, the 1968 bridge was on a replacement schedule. While it rated fair during a spring inspection, the bridge was load-restricted, prohibiting heavy vehicles from crossing. DOT says damage is being assessed and an expedited plan will me made to replace the bridge. However, the closure will be in place for months.
