Varnville man arrested after police chase, shots fired at officers, manhunt

A Varnville man was arrested July 20 and faces several charges after police say he fired his weapon at them during a pursuit. Other charges also include failure to stop for blue lights.

A Varnville man was arrested over the weekend after a vehicle pursuit which led to a manhunt and the brief closure of a portion of Highway 462 in Jasper County, according to police.

Lamarcus Mays, 24, was arrested and faces several charges, including failure to stop for blue lights, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, and attempted murder, the sheriff’s office said…
