A grand opening is planned Wednesday for a tiny house village in Tacoma, the Low Income Housing Institute announced.
Seattle-based LIHI is partnering with Pierce County and the Encampment Resolution Program at the state Department of Commerce to operate Kingfisher Village, located at 1824 S. 84th St., as a 24/7 enhanced shelter for singles and couples. The tiny homes are meant to be pathway toward permanent housing.
Kingfisher Village features 60 tiny houses for people experiencing homelessness and living on state and public rights-of-ways, under bridges, on sidewalks, and other places in Tacoma and Pierce County.
