Man gets 4 years for string of Horry County burglaries that included ashes taken from Socastee bar

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A man arrested after a string of 2023 burglaries at some of the Grand Strand’s best-known locally-owned restaurants and bars was sentenced to more than four years in prison on Friday.

Samuel Smith was given four years and six months in prison by Circuit Court Judge Eugene Warr after a negotiated guilty plea to two counts of second-degree nonviolent burglary and one count of grand larceny, the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office said. His sentence include 729 days for grand larcency, to be served concurrently.

The items stolen in the string of robberies included safes, some with thousands of dollars inside, and the ashes of a former bartender at the Old Bull and Bush Pub and Eatery along Highway 17 Bypass in Socastee.
