Compton Hill Water Tower showcased St. Louis before the Arch

ST. LOUIS – Compton Hill is home to a French Romanesque-style water tower that gave Victorian-era visitors the best aerial view of the city at the time.

The 179-foot standpipe water tower and its adjacent reservoir were restored in a $19 million restoration funded by the St. Louis Department of Water in 1999, a century after the tower was built in 1899.
