Police officer charged with murder in Stanley-area man’s death

A former Newton police officer has been arrested and accused of shooting and killing an unarmed Stanley area man, according to the Catawba County District Attorney’s Office.

Carlos Uribe, 28, who at the time was a lieutenant at the Newton Police Department, is accused of killing 21-year-old Camden Skyler Childers after Childers led police on a chase that started in Newton on June 26.
