Connecticut man sentenced in Virginia for smuggling drugs from China into United States

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A Connecticut man was recently sentenced to 20 years in prison for smuggling illegal drugs from China into Virginia.

Hatem Salem, 56, of Shelton, Conn., received his sentence in Alexandria federal court last Friday, according to a report from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

After pleading guilty to several offenses earlier this year, Salem was sentenced for conspiracy to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, conspiracy to import GBL with intent to manufacture GHB and concealment laundering…
