Wells in Old River found to be contaminated with uranium, TCP: agenda

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The city of Bakersfield is taking steps to extend its water system to an unincorporated community in Kern County after the area’s current wells were found to be contaminated with harmful chemicals, according to the city council meeting agenda.

The Old River Mutual Water Company and the South Kern Mutual Water Company are currently providing water service to those in Old River. Old River provides water to 46 residents and South Kern to 32 residents in those areas, according to the agenda.

Both companies’ wells were built over 60 years ago — South Kern’s well was constructed in 1959 and Old River’s well in 1962.
